Movies 12/07/09
So, I've been working at a video store for more years now than I'd like to admit, and I've recently started watching movies again. Here's some of what I watched during the week of 12/07/2009.

12/07 - City Of God
12/08 - Family Guy: Something
12/09 - Where Eagles Dare
12/10 - Brief Interviews With Hideous Men
12/11 - Planes, Trains And Automobiles
12/12 - Hell's Highway
12/13 - Taking Woodstock

City Of God had been recommended to me by several friends so I finally watched it and I thought it was great. My only complaint was that it kind of brought Slumdog Millionaire down a bit in my eyes because it was so similar. Family Guy was nothing special as the only laugh it got out of me was for Cleveland's line about the wires being nailed into the ice walls on Hoth. "I'm sure that's safe" or whatever. Where Eagles Dare with Clint Eastwood reminded me a bit of Inglourious Basterds in that it was a WW2 movie and it involved British agents undercover. I really enjoyed the way the story in Brief Interviews was told. John Krasinski directed it and though it showcases a bunch of random actors (Will Arnett, Christopher Meloni, etc), he himself has a really good scene towards the end. Planes, Trains I had seen before, and is a classic. Hell's Highway was garbage. Taking Woodstock was pretty solid, nothing amazing. I later realized it contained a sort of Girl Next Door re-union, though I don't think Emile Hirsch and Paul Dano were ever actually on-screen together. I enjoyed Demetri Martin and I thought Leiv Schrieber was great.
